NMDARs regulate the excitatory-inhibitory balance within neural circuits

چکیده
Excitatory-inhibitory (E/I) balance is essential for normal neural development, behavior and cognition. E/I imbalance leads to a variety of neurological disorders, such as autism schizophrenia. NMDA receptors (NMDARs) regulate AMPAR-mediated excitatory GABA A R-mediated inhibitory synaptic transmission, suggesting that NMDARs play an important role in the establishment maintenance balance. In this review, we briefly introduced NMDARs, AMPARs Rs, summarized current studies on mediated by discussed advances NMDAR-mediated AMPAR R development. Specifically, analyzed NMDAR subunits balance, which may provide new therapeutic strategies recovery disorders.

Npas4 Regulates Excitatory-Inhibitory Balance within Neural Circuits through Cell-Type-Specific Gene Programs
The nervous system adapts to experience by inducing a transcriptional program that controls important aspects of synaptic plasticity. Although the molecular mechanisms of experience-dependent plasticity are well characterized in excitatory neurons, the mechanisms that regulate this process in inhibitory neurons are only poorly understood. Here, we describe a transcriptional program that is indu...
متن کاملInhibitory control of the excitatory/inhibitory balance in psychiatric disorders
Neuronal networks consist of different types of neurons that all play their own role in order to maintain proper network function. The two main types of neurons segregate in excitatory and inhibitory neurons, which together regulate the flow of information through the network. It has been proposed that changes in the relative strength in these two opposing forces underlie the symptoms observed ...

متن کاملPlasticity of cortical excitatory-inhibitory balance.
Synapses are highly plastic and are modified by changes in patterns of neural activity or sensory experience. Plasticity of cortical excitatory synapses is thought to be important for learning and memory, leading to alterations in sensory representations and cognitive maps. However, these changes must be coordinated across other synapses within local circuits to preserve neural coding schemes a...
متن کاملEnhanced Intrinsic Excitability in Basket Cells Maintains Excitatory-Inhibitory Balance in Hippocampal Circuits
The dynamics of inhibitory circuits in the cortex is thought to rely mainly on synaptic modifications. We challenge this view by showing that hippocampal parvalbumin-positive basket cells (PV-BCs) of the CA1 region express long-term (>30 min) potentiation of intrinsic neuronal excitability (LTP-IE(PV-BC)) upon brief repetitive stimulation of the Schaffer collaterals. LTP-IE(PV-BC) is induced by...
